News on a publication about the history of Roundstone

ROUNDSTONE, A HISTORY.  BY MICHAEL HALLIDAY

This history was published at the end of 2021 and was a project driven by time provided by the Covid pandemic and the fact that Nimmo’s village will be 200 years old in 2024.

All profits will be used for projects in Roundstone. It has been decided that funds will be used for the Tidy Towns Competition and helping a return of music tuition in the national school, which disappeared during the pandemic. It is also being proposed that a heritage committee could plan on how to use funds to raise awareness of local history, with 2024 making that more relevant.

Due to generous sponsorship and good sales before Christmas the book is already in profit. In the village all outlets selling the book for 20 euro are taking no profit. Outside the village 5 euro is taken. Usually bookshops take 40% profit from book sales but all agree to reduce that to 25% because profits are for local projects or charities.

It is available in the following outlets: Clifden Book Shop; Books At One, Letterfrack; Kenny’s Bookshop, Galway; Charlie Byrnes, Galway; Moycullen Bookshop, Ballynahinch Castle Hotel, Keoghs, Ballyconneely. In Roundstone it can be bought in the XL Shop, O’Dowd’s, The Shamrock and Malachy Kearns Bodhran Shop.As the summer approaches, this number will increase. Most of the bookshops also do online sales.

It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas!

This tree adds a unique sense of community spirit and a tribute to the hard working fishermen in the village. It started around 5 years ago and hopefully this tradition will continue for many years to come. Well done to everyone involved in making Roundstone “fishtive”!! MERRY CHRISTMAS from Roundstone! 🎄🎅
